Welcome to Cowper Horse Transport (North Wales) - North Wales' leading Horse Transportation Company. Established in 2010 we are a family owned business based in the beautiful area of Gwynedd in North West Wales. We offer fully authorised, cerified and insured transport in a luxury top of the range vehicle. Your horse will get a personal service and will be collected and delivered the same day, on a door to door service. We will not haul your horse half way around the country and into strange yards in a bid to offer 'cheap' horse transport. We don't do cheap, we do quality at a reasonable cost.
We are available for vet trips (including emergency call out at no extra cost), shows, collecting/delivering a new horse, beach rides, fun rides – the choice is yours.
We hold the Welfare of Animals in Transport Certificate (WATO) and are fully insured (employers and public liability, care custody and control, hire and reward, livery yard liability insurances), licenced and DEFRA authorised
Our box was built by Boss Horseboxes in Flint, North Wales. Boss horseboxes are the lightest and safest builds on the market today. With its unique styling and superior payload, the Supa-Lite 35 achieves its rugged durability through the use of advanced materials, skilled craftsmanship and excellent design, whilst remaining lightweight: It is truly the ultimate 3.5 tonne two horse horsebox. Fully insulated with multiple windows and a roof vent with air conditioning and climate control unit (controlled from the driver cab as recommended by DEFRA), the Supa-Lite offers a bright inviting horse area which stays cool, even on a hot day. A totally separate horse and living area negates any worries of horses breaching the breast bar and with its full partition and padded sides it is a cool, safe and comfortable space to travel in. We can also accommodate mare's with foal's at foot as the horse area opens out into a full stall.
Our services are not restricted to Equine’s – we are happy to transport horses, ponies, donkeys, llama’s and alpaca’s and so on.
We are also authorised breakdown recovery agents for the RAC, AA, PRP, ERS and many other companies.
WHAT SHOULD YOU LOOK FOR WHEN CHOOSING A TRANSPORTER??
Here are some points to consider, this list is not exhaustive and is intended as general guidance only:
Cost should not be the most important thing... The cheapest quote may not work out to be the most cost effective if things go wrong and you are not correctly insured..When booking transport for your precious equine friend, consider asking what insurances and qualifications the transporter has - they should be more than happy to provide proof and sight of their policy documents. They should be have in place : Care Custody and Control (covers your horse whilst in their care), Hire and Reward (business use of a commercial vehicle for paying customers), Public Liability - and, if carrying a groom or offering to carry owners as passengers - they should also hold employers liability. If overnighting your horse at their premises, livery yard insurance in the transporters name is required - third party insurance does not cover this, nor overnighting at a third party address. Transporters such as myself, that operate 3.5t lorries, also have to adhere to 'Domestic Hour Rules' which means we cannot drive(or work) for more than 10.5 hours in a working day, and cannot be 'on duty' for more than 11,so beware anyone that is transporting 'after work' because if they have done a day's work for already, they are driving illegally if for reward.. They should also be able to provide their DEFRA authorisation number - Type 1 allows us to transport for 8hours only, Type 2 for over 8 hours, and hold the Welfare Of Animals in Transport certificate or similar -aka WATO certified. Another point to consider is the type of vehicle used - does it look in good repair, does it look like it is well built, safely manufactured and built for the job of transporting horses safely? Not everyone can afford a new lorry when they are starting a new business perhaps, or afford to replace it regularly - however, they should have made a reasonable investment in their business and in the safety of the horses they intend to carry and have chosen a safe and suitable vehicle that is fit for the purpose of travelling unknown horses. A converted van can be bought of ebay these days for around £7,000 - these are not fit for purpose, although many choose to use them. Our latest lorry cost in the region of £40,000 - that is the price WE put on the safety of your horses, and our own
There are lots and lots of horse transport companies to choose from, choose wisely and travel safely x
